The early weeks are different
Newborns need frequent feeding and hands-on care. Short sleep stretches do not mean you are doing something wrong. In this stage, the goal is to understand your baby, keep sleep safe and find practical support for you. Awake-settling practice for older babies is not a newborn target.
Notice a few patterns
A few notes about feeds, sleep and settling can help you see what your days are like. You do not need a rigid timetable or a detailed app. Follow your baby’s care needs and your healthcare provider’s feeding guidance, even when a day looks different from yesterday.
Keep the routine simple
A fresh diaper, quiet voice and calm sleep space can make caregiving feel more familiar. Repeat what is practical and share the sequence with other caregivers. Place baby on their back in a suitable firm, flat sleep space without loose bedding or soft objects.
Support for you, too

Coaching and healthcare have different roles
This guide offers general education, not a medical assessment. Talk to a qualified healthcare provider about health, growth, feeding, breathing or persistent distress. For an urgent concern, seek urgent medical help.
