A new bed is a big change
Moving to a bed changes more than the furniture. Your child has new freedom and may need help understanding the routine. Check the crib’s instructions and safety limits, including climbing risks, rather than choosing a transition date from age alone.
Prepare the room first
Review furniture anchoring, cords, windows and other hazards because your child may move around without you. Follow the instructions and age limits for the bed and any safety equipment. Ask a qualified professional when you are unsure about a product or setup.
Keep bedtime familiar
Use the same book, cuddles and phrase in the new space. Explain what happens if your child needs help or gets up. A familiar response can make the new sleeping arrangement easier to understand.
Give learning room
Some evenings may need more reassurance. Respond calmly and return to the agreed routine when ready. Katrina can help you plan bedtime and caregiver responses around a safe transition, with support as you practise.
Coaching and healthcare have different roles
This guide offers general education, not a medical assessment. Talk to a qualified healthcare provider about health, growth, feeding, breathing or persistent distress. For an urgent concern, seek urgent medical help.
